kinematics

Kinematics:-

Kinematics is one of the easiest and important chapters of Mechanics in the syllabus of IIT JEE, AIEEE and other engineering examinations. The beginners also find it easy and it is very interesting for them to solve numerical problems on them. This chapter is also important from the viewpoint that it is a prerequisite to all other chapters of Mechanics. Moreover the concept of this chapter is useful in the other units of Physics. This chapter can be said to be one of the easiest as it has very few twists and turns.

While studying motion of bodies we have to keep two things in mind. We have to study various characteristics associated with moving bodies while we are to explore and study in detail, about the cause of producing motion. Accordingly we divided the study in two categories. One is Kinematics and the other is Dynamics.

It is the branch of physics which deals only with the description of motion of bodies. In this branch we shall study some characteristics associated with moving bodies, e.g., displacement,  velocity, acceleration etc. We shall also study various relations connecting them with each other. But we shall not concentrate on the cause of motion. This chapter deals with the fundamental concepts of the motion of a particle in one and two dimensions. Various kinds of motion can be symmetrically grouped under few broad categories. The point of distinction is made on grounds of the velocity vector. On these grounds motion can be one dimensional, two-dimensional or three-dimensional. In this chapter we will study the part of the mechanics which deals only the motion of body and not the cause of motion.

Characteristics Associated with Moving Bodies

Among other things, we will learn how to describe bodies moving in a straight line, uniform circular motion, the motion of projectiles – to name a few.
